Lions 24 – Bears 13
Game Studs: Jahvid Best
Have we seen the breakout game Jahvid Best owners have been looking for? Doubt it. Chicago lost Julius Peppers early in the game and was scrambling after that to produce any sort of run defense. Peyton Manning, a notoriously bad runner, could have run on the Bears last night. There was this 88 yard touchdown run and this 43 yard run (exact same play different side). And if it isn’t completely obvious from the video, Brandon Meriweather couldn’t tackle a four year old. Obviously Best had his ‘best’ fantasy day this year but it’s hard to give him much credit for it. He only had 16 touches (12 carries) and half his yards came on one play where the defense disappeared. He looked fast, but we knew he was fast. Going forward Best isn’t any better of an option then he was before but sure is fun to watch. Two other players on the Lion’s had relevant days and they are Calvin Johnson and Brandon Pettigrew. Megatron made the Bear’s secondary look unprepared by running a simply route where he faked outside and came back in for an easy pitch and catch (see the play here). After Johnson the yardage dropped off significantly for all other Lion’s receivers as neither Titus Young or Nate Burleson had respectable days. Still looks like Young is no. 2 way behind Calvin. At least Brandon Pettigrew found the end zone. I was really high on this guy going into the week and he paid off. Look for him as a bye-week fill-in.
Chicago looked bad as a team. Matt Forte was unable to break anything; on touches alone Forte managed 116 rushing yards. His longest play went for 23 yards and it looked like he was about have a breakout, but it never happened. Forte is still a big part of the passing game which makes him one of the most valuable backs in PPR leagues. Hold on to him unless you get some insane offer. Jay Cutler actually looked like a great quarterback. Throughout the entire game he showed pocket presence and the ability to throw the ball off his back foot with two defensive tackles in his face. His O-Line did him absolutely no favors from start to finish. Going out on a limb here and saying Devin Hester is the receiver to own in Chicago. He was clearly the most looked for receiver and he is getting return yards. If he’s available he may be worth a look in bye-weeks.
